Nancy Pelosi's Earth Day Bible b.s.

On Earth Day, Nancy Pelosi quoted the Bible: “The Bible tells us in the Old Testament, ‘To minister to the needs of God’s creation is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us.’ On this Earth Day, and every day, let us honor the earth and our future generations with a commitment to fight climate change.”

Apparently, it’s a favorite verse of hers. She has used it in official statements on global warming, the budget, Martin Luther King Day, Christmas, and why she’s a Democrat. Jim Hoft has audio chronicles.

Dr. Claude Mariottini, an Old Testament scholar, noted on his blog last year and this year that no such Biblical verse exists.

CNS News asked other Bible scholars for the source of the quote in the Old Testament that Nancy Pelosi keeps invoking.

They can’t find it either.

In searching for the key words (e.g. "minister," "needs," "creation" and "worship," and "ignore," "needs," "dishonor" and "God") from the supposed verse(s) in every English version of the Bible on BibleGateway.com, I have found exactly zero matches.

Blogger Joel Gaines is holding a contest to find this verse. I predict there will be no winners.

People like Pelosi and the Bible are like oil and water. The former is greasy, filthy and stinks up to high heaven and the latter gives life.

(I'm fully expecting many skeptic excuses - not necessarily here - to be something along the lines of, "So what? The rest of the Bible is made-up, too.")

UPDATE: Narrowing it down. Thanks to the good Dr. Claude Mariottini for providing some more information. It turns out that in at least one of her previous utterances of this phony Bible verse, Pelosi attributed it to the book of Isaiah. So let's search the book of Isaiah in all the versions available at BibleGateway.com for the word "minister."

NIV, Message, NLT, NASB and Amplified - nothing even close
