It seems I need to start having open comment threads

My visitors are obviously in need of them, so have at it! If you post something particularly intelligent or ridiculously stupid, I'll probably address it in an entry of its own.

Just watch the language (as always).

The trolls come out to party

So I made a comment on this lefty blog in regards to the author's wailing and gnashing of teeth over a Walmart dropping a local newspaper in response to a negative column about Walmart. Yeah, a real tear-jerker there. I mean, Heaven forbid that the store's management has any say over what merchandise they do or do not carry - particularly when that merchandise decides to bite the hand that feeds it!

Anyway, that comment brought a couple trolls to my blog. Here's a sampling of their brilliant insight along with my responses:
In response to a posting about Walmart and the Pensacola News Journal on Antonia Zerbisias' blog, you wrote this:
"Children are starving to death in the world and this is what you complain about?"
Did you read the article in question? If so, I wonder if you see no connections between children starving and the behaviour of corporations like Walmart? Does the poverty of the children of Walmart employees not trouble you at all?

In short, no. Walmart isn't causing their employees' children to live in poverty. The employees have choices in this country. First and foremost, of course, is the choice to find alternative employment if they don't like where they work. They also have the choice of seeking state assistance. Now, I'm not talking about people becoming dependant on state assistance. Far from it. But the assistance is there if you need it. My wife and I had to use it for a while and we're not ashamed of it, but we eventually stopped because we no longer needed it. Quite plainly, there is no valid reason for people in this country to live in poverty. To place the blame for it on Walmart is ridiculous.
Yeah! They should just quit and live off of welfare. Then the right wing will have more to gripe about. Maybe Jesus will save their hungry kids. If those kids work hard enough, they won't be hungry, so put them to work!

As I said, people can find alternative employment if they are unhappy with their current employer. I've done this a number of times in my life. They don't have to live off welfare, though a temporary life from the state doesn't hurt. And thanks so much for mocking my religion. Nice to know that the left's "tolerance" is still a big, fat lie.
Children are starving to death in the world and this is what you post?
'Scottie' died. Earthshaking news.

By the way, if you knew anything about Wal-Mart you'd know they contribute to the starvation and exploitation of child workers.
Pinhead.

"Pinhead." A crippling insult, to be sure! Actually, friend, my use of the "children are starving to death" line on the lefty blog was a figurative expression to show how ridiculous the woman's quibble with Walmart was. It wasn't particularly literal. And actually, yes, James Doohan's passing is earthshaking news to many people. He was known and loved the world over. He was a person of outstanding class and quality - the type of person that is rarely found in the world today. And if you knew anything about the world, you'd know that child workers are continually exploited in third world countries and sometimes American businesses - not just Walmart - unknowingly do business with people who exploit their workers. It's not the fault of the American companies. When such exploitment is discovered, American companies end their business with those responsible.

CounterPunch tries to cover for Ward Churchill

Michelle Malkin exposes Ward Churchill's bogus plagiarism allegations against her here. When Michelle contacted them, CounterPunch tried to cover for Churchill by changing the article to remove his statements. Unfortunately for them, they can't hide from Google. Take a look:

The crap that the STrib prints in their LttE

It's one thing to print the letters to the editor from people who honestly believe (without the need for evidence) that Karl Rove is guilty of "outing" Valerie Plame and that he should be jailed (without the benefit of a trial). It's an entirely different thing to publish meaningless crap like this:
A catchy ditty

To the tune of "The Rain in Spain," sing with me now:

The blame for Plame falls lamely on Hussein.

Bush's aim to maim Hussein could not be tamed.

Rove framed the dame but "didn't use her name"?

How lame, this claim; our leaders have no shame!

Actually, on second thought, that letter is a lot more intelligent than the rest of the STrib's liberal garbage.

Army medic defines the word "hero"

Learned of this via Michelle Malkin (not the MSM... imagine that...):
Soldier survives attack; captures, medically treats sniper

During a routine patrol in Baghdad June 2, Army Pfc. Stephen Tschiderer, a medic, was shot in the chest by an enemy sniper, hiding in a van just 75 yards away. The incident was filmed by the insurgents.

Tschiderer, with E Troop, 101st “Saber” Cavalry Division, attached to 3rd Battalion, 156th Infantry Regiment, 256th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, was knocked to the ground from the impact, but he popped right back up, took cover and located the enemy’s position.

After tracking down the now-wounded sniper with a team from B Company, 4th Battalion, 1st Iraqi Army Brigade, Tschiderer secured the terrorist with a pair of handcuffs and gave medical aid to the terrorist who’d tried to kill him just minutes before.

Click the link for video and more.

There's no doubt that had the roles been reversed, Tschiderer would be dead. The "insurgents" don't give medical attention to anyone but their own. They are cowardly, murderous scum. Our soldiers are brave, dedicated heroes.

God bless our armed forces!

She turned me into a newt!*

Utah school board saw witchcraft in a coffee-drinking teacher.

*I got better...

"[I]f my son dies, I will drink from al-Zarqawi's blood."

I've always wondered if the leftist goal of making everyone place the blame for every single death in Iraq on President Bush was working in Iraq itself. I got at least a partial answer in this article:
Outside the door to the refrigerated room, Amjad's sobbing mother called his name over and over, as if to summon him back to life. Then she looked up and asked: "What did he do to deserve this? They are killing children. Why? Why?"

Amjad and more than a dozen other children from east Baghdad's al-Khalij neighborhood were among the 27 people killed when a suicide bomber drove into a crowd that had gathered around U.S. soldiers who were handing out candy and small toys, police said.

...

"The kids were laughing and playing with the soldiers when the suicide bomber drove his car bomb very fast into the crowd and blew himself up, killing all the kids who were around the soldiers, and some cleaners who were there," said a police officer, Ali Hussein.

...

"I do not know how anyone in the world - whether they believe or do not believe in God - could do something like kill a kid," he said. The attackers "are after us and the American forces, and we understand that because we are after them, too. But how could they hurt those innocent kids?"

...

As Zahra Abdulla walked slowly behind the wheelchair that was carrying her son, Talal Ali, 9, out of surgery on his wounded left leg, she recalled the bedlam she witnessed when she rushed out of her house upon hearing the explosion. "Blood and bits of flesh were everywhere. I was lucky I found Talal and brought him here," said Abdullah, 28. "Thank God, his condition is better than the others. I feel terrible for the other boys. Why are they attacking children?"

In the shattered neighborhood, children's shoes and sandals lay in the street. Piles of ruined possessions pulled from the wrecked homes still smoldered a few hours after the attack. Neighbors argued over whether the Americans should be blamed for attracting the children and creating a target for attack.

A woman whose son had been wounded and taken to the hospital said responsibility lay solely with the insurgents and their leader, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. "I swear to God," said the woman, who identified herself as Umm Salam, "if my son dies, I will drink from al-Zarqawi's blood."

The "insurgents" are nothing but vicious, bloodthirsty, murderous monsters who will do anything and kill anyone in their attempt to regain power. And I think they know that the leftists in America will blame every single death on President Bush and America instead of themselves. Fortunately, at least some of the Iraqis aren't falling for it.
